Training Division

Commitment to Excellence

A good training program is undoubtedly the single most important factor in producing and maintaining a high level of proficiency in any fire department.

Through a professional, well-trained, and safe work force, the men and women of the Northshore Fire Department are committed to delivering the highest level of fire suppression, emergency medical, fire prevention, and disaster services possible for our rapidly changing residential, business, and corporate communities.

The Training Division of Northshore Fire Department provides firefighters with continuous operational training on an annual basis.

Firefighters receive a variety of general training courses including Live Fire Training, apparatus driver training, hazardous materials, rescue and collapse and operational readiness to name a few.

The Training Division also coordinates annual fire company and individual performance evaluations, medical monitoring and individual physical fitness evaluations of Fire Fighters. Training is coordinated with Washington State Fire Service Training and the United States Fire Administration Training Programs.

What's new you ask?

The Northshore Fire Training Division consolidated it's division with Bothell Fire & EMS and Shoreline Fire Department. This consolidation has placed the training divisions under one roof. The central location has reduced the duplication of services and lowered overhead. The shared location also allows the three departments to standardize the training for the local region. The new training division has been named the Northlake Training Division. The new location of  Northlake Training Division, is in Shoreline at  Shoreline Fire Department Headquarters, 175th and Aurora Ave North.

Vacant / Abandoned Buildings Wanted!
Vacant / Abandoned Buildings Provide Excellent Training Opportunities for Firefighters

Fire Departments across the country realize the importance of training in buildings typical to the ones they respond to. From a small single-family residence to large commercial structures, these buildings provide excellent training opportunities for firefighters.

The Northshore Fire Department is asking property owners who may have a structure that is abandoned, vacant, or ready to be demolished to allow firefighters to conduct training in it.

There are three types of training:

  • Non-destructive (search and rescue training)
  • Destructive (wall breaching, roof ventilation, etc.,,)
  • Live-fire (from small room fires to fully involved structure fires)

The Northshore Fire Department needs abandoned / vacant buildings for these types of training.

If a property owner has a structure they would like to donate for use by the fire department but doesn't want the building damaged or destroyed, they can request it be used for Non Destructive training.

If a property owner has a structure that is scheduled for demolition, the fire department would then use it for Destructive or Live-Fire training. The best structures for fire fighting training are ones that are not good for the owners - having low appeal for potential tenants.

Buildings that are most sought after are:

  • Single-family residences
  • Multi-family residences
  • Apartment buildings
  • Schools
  • Strip malls
  • Large commercial structures (i.e. grocery stores, hardware stores, commercial high rises, etc.)

Anyone wishing to help the Northshore Fire Department with the use of their building please call: 425-533-6501 and Ask for the Training Division.
