Recruitment

If you are a candidate for the position of Firefighter Recruit with the Northshore Fire Department or any other fire department participating in the Regional Fire Recruitment Consortium, you can obtain information by accessing the web site for Public Safety Testing at www.publicsafetytesting.com or calling 1-866-447- 3911. This company has been contracted to perform the initial written and physical fitness exam components for entry-level firefighter positions. The Northshore Fire Department does not supply applications for jobs within the fire department unless a known vacancy exists.

All applicants for firefighter must have certification as an Emergency Medical Technician with the State of Washington at the time of employment. Classes are offered at your local community college.

When a firefighter position is open for NSFD, a list is obtained from Public Safety Testing that contains all testing information and candidate ranking. This list is reviewed and a select number of candidates will be contacted for further information and testing. A candidate must pass department sponsored physical, drug and psychological testing prior to being offered employment.

Once a job has been offered, the candidate will be required to complete a department sponsored or approved recruit academy. Those who successfully complete the recruit training are assigned to a station as a probationary firefighter for the remainder of their 12-month probationary period. During the probationary period, on-going structured training will be provided with regular performance evaluations.
